Scandalous, the new Broadway musical from Kathie Lee Gifford, will hold its final performance on December 9 at the Neil Simon Theatre. The musical, which features a book and lyrics by Gifford and music by David Pomeranz and David Friedman, opened on November 15. At the time of closing, the show will have played 31 previews and 29 regular performances.
The musical stars Tony nominee Carolee Carmello as real-life 1920s revivalist and broadcasting pioneer Aimee Semple McPherson. Following McPherson's life from her childhood to her controversial death in 1944, the musical focuses on her mysterious "kidnapping" and the ensuing trial. McPherson rose to fame amid scandalous love affairs and controversy, which ended in a much-publicized fall from grace. Scandalous also features Tony winner George Hearn, Roz Ryan, Edward Watts, Andrew Samonsky and Candy Buckley.
Directed by David Armstrong, Scandalous includes set design by Walt Spanger, costume design by Gregory A. Poplyk, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Ken Travis and orchestration by Bruce Coughlin.
